Do that to me one more time. Once is never enough with a man like you. Do that to me one more time. I can never get enough of a man like you. -Captain & Tennille
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! What’s crack-a-lacking sports fans? It’s that time of year again. That time of year. The air is a little bit crisper. The air is a little bit cooler. The air is crisper and cooler and the Pittsburgh Steelers are making yet another run at the NFL Championship. The NFL. This is what it’s all about. Ben Roethlisberger is what it’s all about. You put your right foot in, you put your right foot out. You put your right foot in and you shake it all about. You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around, that’s what it’s all about!
Last seen, Big Ben Roethlisberger was throwing a laser to Santonio Holmes. A super throw, a, super grab, and a tippy-toe job into the corner of the end zone for another Super Bowl title. Last night, we saw more of the same. Last night we saw Big Ben pass for 363 yards in the Steelers win over Tennessee. We saw the most passing yards on opening day for a Steelers quarterback since the imitable Jim Finks passed for 327 yards at Green Bay in Pittsburgh’s season opener in 1954. But that’s not all we saw. We saw something even more incerdible.
Jim Harbaugh and Roger Staubach earned the nickname “Captain Comeback” for their ability to win games in the fourth quarter after overcoming significant point deficits. Then there was John Elway. Then there was The Duke of Denver. The Driver. The staying aliver. Ha ha ha ha staying alive. Staying alive in the mud in Cleveland. Staying alive with the most game-winning or game-tying scoring drives in the fourth quarter. The real Captain Comeback. Now we have Big Ben Roethlisberger.
Last night, at the end of regulation, Roethlisberger connected with Hines Ward for what should have been the winner winner chicken dinner. Ward fumbled, it was not. There’s no need to fear, Big Ben is here. Big ben went 5 for 7 for 60 yards on the game-winning drive in the extra session. Hooray Big Ben! Big Ben now has 18 game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime since he joined the league in 2004. He now has the the most for any quarterback over that span, two more than some six-five, 230-pound quarterback with a laser rocket arm. He now is the new Captain Comeback.
Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
