Tim Lincecum: Freakishly Good

Have you heard about the new dance craze?  Listen to us, I’m sure you’ll be amazed.  It’s called Le Freak!  They’re doing it night and day.  Allow us, we’ll show you the way.  -Chic

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  Last night, the Freak threw big huge Uncle Charlies.  Last night, the Freak threw fastballs with pinpoint precision.  Last night, the Freak threw Bugs Bunny change-ups.  Watch me paste ‘dis pathetic palooka with a powerful, paralyzing, perfect, pachydermous, percussion pitch.  Last night, the Freak, Tim Lincecum, was something to behold.  The stuff legends are made.  The greatest legend of them all, Babe Ruth, once said, “As soon as I got out there I felt a strange relationship with the pitcher’s mound.  It was as if I’d been born out there.  Pitching just felt like the most natural thing in the world. Striking out batters was easy.”  That was Tim Lincecum last night.

Garrett Jones:  “All his pitches were unbelievable.  He was hitting his spot any time during the count.”  Hitting his spot and amassing a career-high total of 15 strikeouts.  Hitting his spot and amassing a Major League-high total of 15 strikeouts.  Hitting his spot and allowing only a pair of unearned runs in a 4-2 complete-game victory over the Pirates.  Yowza!

That’s pretty good all right.  Wanna know how good?  Sure you do.  Last night, Tim Lincecum became the first Giants pitcher with 15-or-more strikeouts in a game in which he didn’t allow an earned run since the National League got the idea to keep track of earned runs back in 1912.  Now that’s saying something.  I’m gonna say something too.  I’m gonna say this Tim Lincecum character is good.  I’m gonna say this Tim Lincecum character reminds me an awful lot of another character.  He reminds me an awful lot of that Pedro Martinez character.  Now that’s saying something.
