Spurs: Back In The Saddle

Ridin’ the range once more, totin’ my old .44, where you sleep out every night and the only law is right.  Back in the saddle again.  -Gene Autrey

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  I got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle, as I go ridin’ merrily along.  Don’t look now, here come the Spurs.  Maybe you forgot about them.  Who could blame you.  Last season they weren’t looking so jingly.  Not so jangly.  Last season, Manu Ginobili played in only 44 games as he continued to struggle with a right ankle injury.  Last season, Bruce Bowen, Michael Finley and Kurt Thomas all looked their age.  Last season, the once mighty mighty San Antonio Spurs were an afterthought.  This season ain’t last season.

This season, Manu will be back.  Back in black.  Number one with a bullet, he’s a power pack.  The best 6th man in basketball will be back.  Back coming off the bench.  Coming out of the phone booth.  Coming off the bench and out of the phone booth to simply take over ball games.  He won’t be alone.

You can Vince Carter me.  You can Shaq Daddy me.  Heck, you can even Jamal Crawford me.  I ain’t biting.  The best moves this draft/pre-draft were made by the San Antonio Spurs.  Dick Vitale is right:  “I think right now Santa Claus came early and we’re going to have San Antonio play for the title, baby!”

The Spurs just got younger.  The Spurs just got more athetic.  By acquiring Richard Jefferson in a three-team trade that cost them Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto and Kurt Thomas, the Spurs just became relevant again.  Hooray Spurs!

And then, to top it off, they got DeJuan Blair.  They got DeJuan Blair with the thitry-seventh pick in the draft.  Are you kidding me?  Thirty-seventh?  Rodrique Beaubois who?  Jeff Pendergraff what?  Like my main men the Beastie Boys always say, “Girls with boyfriends are the kind I like.  I`ll steal your honey like I stole your bike.”  The Spurs just stole themselves another shot at the title.  The Spurs are back in the saddle again!

Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
