It’s tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that’s right on time. It’s tricky…it’s tricky. Tricky. Tricky. Tricky. -Run DMC
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Just a quick one. A did like that, did it like this, did it with a hockey stick one. No, sports fans, the juggernaut Washington Capitals did not win last night, but they did do something of note. Even though the Caps lost 6-5 in Ottawa, one night after their 14-game winning streak came to an end with a 6-5 overtime loss in Montreal, they managed a hat trick out of yet another player. Last night Alexander Semin scored three goals following hat tricks by Alex Ovechkin and Brooks Laich. How about that? How about this? That marks the first time that Washington has ever had players record hat tricks in each of three or more consecutive team games. It also marks the first time it’s happened since the Flames, back in 1992, tied the NHL record with individual hat tricks in four straight games. Back then, Sergei Makarov, Joe Nieuwendyk, Theoren Fleury and Gary Leeman turned the tricks. Pretty neat, huh?

Three is a magic number. Yes it is, it’s a magic number. Somewhere in the ancient, mystic trinity, you get three as a magic number. -Schoolhouse Rock
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! The Boston Celtics had Bird, Parrish and McHale. The Montreal Canadiens had Larry Robinson, Serge Savard and Guy Lapointe. Meet the new big three. If you wanna know the real deal about the three, well let me tell you, they’re triple trouble ya’ll. I’m gonna bring you up to speed. I’m gonna bring you up to speed about the Washington Capitals’ top three scorers: Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin and Nicklas Backstrom. Last night, all three of those cats put the biscuit in the basket in the Caps’ 5-2 victory over the Thrashers. Hooray capitals! You know what that makes those three cats? Huh? Do ya? That makes them the highest scoring trio of all NHL teammates. That’s what that makes them. That makes them a good bet to to set the NHL record for consecutive wins. The Capitals have now won 13 straight, four short of matching the longest run in NHL history. They have done that by being carried squarely on the backs of the new Big Three.
