The New York Knicks: Star Makers

By: josh q. public on: Monday, March 21, 2011 @11:19 am

The New York Knicks: Star MakersI believe that everybody’s a celebrity and we’ve all got personality ’cause I’m a starmaker and I can make you a star.  -The Kinks

What’s crack-a-lacking sports fans?  I’ll tell you what ain’t crack-a-lacking.  The New York Knicks defense ain’t crack-a-lacking.  They ain’t crack-a-lacking by a longshot.  No they ain’t.  The Knicks defense is bad.  The Knicks defense is godawful.  The Knicks defense is atrocious.  If you say it loud enough, you’ll always sound precocious. Um-diddle-diddle-um-diddleye!  I’m sorry.  This is no singing matter.  Red Auerbach once said, “Basketball is like war in that offensive weapons are developed first, and it always takes a while for the defense to catch up.”  I’ll tell you what, if the Knicks’s defense doesn’t catch up soon, they’re gonna lose this war.      Read More »

Tom Thibodeau & The Bulls D

By: josh q. public on: Friday, March 18, 2011 @9:00 am

Tom Thibodeau & The Bulls DThe idea is not to block every shot.  The idea is to make your opponant believe that you might block every shot.  ~Bill Russell

How bout them Bulls!  Them eight in a row Bulls.  Goodness gracious great basketballs of fire!  How do they do it?  I’ll tell you how they do it.  They do it by playing defense.  They do it by playing rough defense.  They do it by playing tough defense.  None of that Marshmallow Fluff defense.  Tom Thibodeau came to Chicago and said what Norman Dale said.  Tom Thibodeau came to Chicago and said, “I’ve seen you guys can shoot but there’s more to the game than shooting.  There’s fundamentals and defense.”  And that’s what he’s professed ever since.  Don’t believe me?  Just ask Derrick Rose:  “That’s what we’ve been doing the whole year, playing defense.  If our offense isn’t going, and that rarely happens, we rely on our defense.” Read More »

NBA: Year Of The Double-Double

By: josh q. public on: Thursday, March 17, 2011 @12:14 pm

NBA: Year Of The Double DoubleI’m a need a double, bring it on a double.  Yeah!  A bottle each hand, I’m the fuckin’ man.  Yeah!  -Lloyd Banks

Last year, in the NFL, we had the Year of the Qaurterback.  Last year in MLB, we had the Year of the Pitcher.  This year, in the NBA, we have the Year of the Double-Double.  Double, double toil and trouble, fire burn, and caldron bubble.  Double, double toil and trouble, something wicked this way comes.  Something wicked came this way last night.  Last night, Dwight Howard registered his 26th consecutive double-double with 31 points and 22 rebounds in Orlando’s overtime win at Milwaukee.  Hooray Dwight Howard!  For those of you keeping score at home, that’s the longest such streak of Howard’s NBA career as well as a Magic franchise record.  But he’s not the only one.  He’s not the lonely one.  Not the eau de colognely one.  Kevin Love had 53 game double-double streak.  Blake Griffin had a 27 game double-double streaks.  Both longer than Howard.  How about that?  How about this:  This is the first season in almost 40 years in which at least three NBA players have had streaks of more than 25 consecutive games with double-doubles.  Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (separate streaks of 39 and 29 games), Dave Cowens (37) and Spencer Haywood (37) all had such streaks in 1971-72.  Ain’t that somethin’?  Sure it is.  Now don’t say I never gave you nothin’.  Y’all come back now, ya hear?

Peace out homies.  Six two and even!

Game Of The Night: Thunder v. Heat

By: josh q. public on: Wednesday, March 16, 2011 @2:10 pm

Game Of The Night: Thunder v. Heat(ESPN 8PM ET)  I know it’s March Madness, I’m just not feeling it yet.  It’s just not revving up my automobiling it yet.  It’s just not my cut of vealing it yet.  It will be.  Just not yet.  I want to see just how good the  Oklahoma City Thunder are with Kendrick Perkins manning the post.  The Thunder obtained Perkins for three reasons.  The Thunder obtained Perkins for defense, rebounding, and toughness.  That’s right, they got him to do the dirty work.  Dirty deeds.  Done dirt cheap.  The Boston Celtics won a lot with basketball games with Kendrick Perkins doing the dirty work in their line-up.  That Boston Celtics starting line-up never lost a playoff series.  They did however, lose a Game 7 in the Finals without Kendrick Perkins doing the dirty work in the line-up.  What does Perk do in this OKC line-up?  What doe he do with this stable of young talent that is led by soon-to-be back-to-back scoring champ Kevin Durant and fellow All-Star Russell Westbrook?  We soon shall see.  We soon shall see tonight against the scorching Heat.  Get your popcorn ready!

Peace out homies!  Six Two and Even!

Tyler Hansbrough: Superstar

By: josh q. public on: Wednesday, March 16, 2011 @1:39 pm

Tyler Hansbrough: SuperstarDon’t you know that you are a shooting star, and all the world will love you just as long, as long as you are a shooting star.  -Bad Company

Just a quick one.  A run and stick one.  A treat or trick one.  Remember Tyler Hansbrough?  Last seen, Hansbrough was scoring the first basket of both halves and finishing with 25 points and 11 rebounds in North Carolina’s rout of Michigan State in the 2009 NCAA Championship game.  He left college basketball with a Naismith Award and as the ACC’s all-time leading scorer with 2,872 points (12th in NCAA history).  He left college basketball and outside of Chapel Hill and Indianapolis, he has nary been heard from since.  Until last night that is.         Read More »

Game Of The Night: NBA Doubleheader

By: josh q. public on: Friday, March 4, 2011 @3:27 pm

Game Of The Night: NBA Doubleheader(ESPN 7PM ET)  What a night, what a night!  A late December back in ’63 night.  A very special time for me night.  Double the action.  Double your pleasure.  Double your fun.  First up, it’s the Bulls at Orlando.  First up, it’s Dwight Howard.  Dwight Howard, strange visitor from another planet who came to earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men!  Howard has been off the MVP radar for a little there.  He ain’t off it no more.  This cat has simply been on a tear and was just rewarded by being named the East’s player of the month for February.  Derrick Rose who?  Next up its the Heat at San Antonio.  Next up its the best of the West versus a beast of the East.  The Heat have plenty prove.  The Spurs don’t have to prove nothin’ to nobody.  With their last victory, the Spurs tied Magic Johnson’s Lakers for the all-time NBA record with 12 consecutive 50-win seasons.  Like my main The Big Fundamental always says, “Good, better, best.   Never let it rest.  Until your good is better and your better is best.”  Who’s good?  Who’s best?  Stay tuned!  Don’t touch that dial!  Get your popcorn ready!

Peace out homies!  Six Two and Even!

Wilt Chamberlain Scored A Lot One Night

By: AE on: Friday, March 4, 2011 @12:24 am

Wilt Chamberlain Scored A Lot One NightYesterday was March 2nd, and according to the crack research staff at JPQ, it marked the 49th anniversary of Wilt Chamberlain scoring 100 individual points in an NBA game.  While Wilt was surely prolific both on and off the court, the 100 point game has become a thing of legend throughout the years.  Even though the league has seen some great players pass through the gym in the last 49 years, nobody has seriously challenged Wilt’s 100 point game – although Kobe did drop 81 against Toronto back in ’06.  In fact, with the size and speed of the players, and advent of the shot clock, one could argue that Wilt’s record may just be unbreakable.  That got us to thinking, what are some of the unbreakable individual records of all time in sports, and what are the odds that somebody can actually break through and re-write history.  Here now is an exlcusive JQP eyewitness news investigation: Read More »

Who Needs Kendrick Perkins

By: josh q. public on: Thursday, March 3, 2011 @3:06 pm

Who Needs Kendrick Perkins

I’m so over you, yeah I’m so over you.  Yeah I fly over you, cause I’m so over you.  -Lil’ Wayne

When I first heard the news about Kendrick Perkins, I was like Doc Rivers.  When I first heard the news about Kendrick Perkins, I took it personal, “very personal.”  When I first heard the news about Kendrick Perkins, I was like Kevin Garnett: “I felt like I’ve lost a family member.”  I also wondered aloud how my beloved Boston Celtics could continue down the road to glory without his presence in the defensive post.  I wondered aloud how my beloved Boston Celtics could continue down the road to glory without his presence on the glass.  But, as the Good Book says, “And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars.  See that ye be not troubled  for all these things must come to pass.  The end is not near.”  No, good people, the end is not near.  The sky is not falling.  The Boston Celtics will continue down road the road glory!  Can I get an Amen?      Read More »
