Last dance. Last dance for love . Yes, it’s my last chance for romance tonight. -Donna Summer
End of the game. Eight seconds remaining. Down two. Two timeouts in hand. Easy, right? Easy as you pleasy, right? Like George and Weezy, right? Call the timeout and then a run a play that gets the ball in Melo’s hands. Get the ball in Melo’s hot little hands. After all, Melo has 35 career attempts in potential game-tying or go-ahead field-goals in the final ten seconds of either the fourth quarter or overtime. After all, Melo has made 16 of them. That’s 45.7%. That’s pretty gosh darned good. But nooooooo! Instead, the Nuggets rushed the ball up the court, never got it into the hands of Carmelo Anthony, and only got a Nene long baseline shot at the buzzer. It was the first time in Nene’s NBA career that he took a potential game-tying or go-ahead field-goal attempt in the final ten seconds of either the fourth quarter or overtime. It missed. So what gives? Is this a sign of the times? Is George Karl trying to figure out life without Melo while Melo is standing right there? Karl: “I thought I had a great opportunity to attack the rim and kind of deferred to Nene.” Kind of? I don’t care if Melo’s bags are already packed, if he’s on the floor, he’s getting the rock. Period.
Peace out Melo. Six two and even!
