Josh Q. Public: It’s the eye of the Tiger, it’s the cream of the fight. Risin’ up to the challenge of our rival. -Survivor
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Bless you boys. There’s a roar in ole’ Motown. The Tigers are back and the word’s going around. Yes sports fans, the Tigers are back. Back because of one Curtis Granderson. Interleague play didn’t hurt, but let’s be clear, the Tigers return to the playoff picture is due part and parcel to Granderson. Jim Leyland will tell you, as goes Curtis Granderson, so go the Tigers. Jim Leyland will say, “He’s our catalyst. When he’s hot, we’re pretty good.” Curtis Granderson is hot. The Tigers are pretty good. Granderson is batting .550 over his last ten games. Granderson has the highest average in the major leagues over that period. How about that? How about this? Granderson was hitting a paltry .236 when Detroit began this turnaround. Began this upside down, round and round turnaround by sweeping the first-place White Sox back in early June. That’s when the fireworks started. That’s when the streak started. The fifteen game hitting streak. Oh, yes, they call him the Streak. But most importantly, that’s when the winning started. Just win baby! The Tigers are a remarkable 16-3 since that first White Sox game. The Tigers are a remarkable 16-3 since Granderson got his first of his streak during that first White Sox game. It has been Granderson’s production that has given this team the boost they needed. He has jumpstarted the offense. Jumpstart my heart. Jumpstarted the offense and made the Tigers become one of the hottest teams in the Major Leagues. My gal is red hot. Your gal ain’t doodely squat. Detroit will play another forty-three games within the division before this season’s over, all over. That’s when the chickens will come home to roost. That’s when the cream will rise to the top. That’s when the men will be separated from the boys. As of now, Detroit’s 10-19 within the AL Central. But that was before. BC. Before Curtis.
