Game Of The Night: Robinson v. LaMotta

By: josh q. public on: Wednesday, June 30, 2010 @3:50 pm

(ESPN Classic 10PM ET)  Sorry folks but there’s absolutely nothing else on.  Nothing, I say!  So why not hunker down and watch the 6th and final fight between two middleweight boxing legends.  Why not hunker down and watch the 6th and final fight between Jake LaMotta and Sugar Ray Robinson.  LaMotta once said, “I fought Sugar Ray so often, I almost got diabetes.”  There’s was nothing sweet about this fight.  Held on February 14, 1951, Saint Valentine’s Day, the fight became known as boxing’s version of the Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre.  You never got me down, Ray!  You never got me down!  Get your popcorn ready!

Peace out homies!  Six Two and Even!

Knicks Fans Rejoice!

You’re the one that I want.  Ooo,ooo.  The one I need.  Oh, yes indeed.  -Grease

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  Sing it with me Knicks’ fans.  Follow the bouncing ball.  Happy days are here again.  The skies above are clear again.  So let’s sing a song of cheer again.  Happy days are here again!  That’s right folks,  eleven years after losing to the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA finals, eight years after naming Thomas the President of Basketball Operations, and three years after current president Donnie Walsh began dismantling the remnants of a decade-long hangover in hopes of landing the big fish in the 2010 Summer of Free Agency, it looks like the Knicks are finally on the fast track to sign their man.  That man?  LeBron?  Hells no!  That man is the one and only Luke Ridnour.  Hallelujah!

Joey Votto: Mr. Clutch

Joey Votto: Mr. Clutch

Down…The paint is peelin’.  Now…When the chips are down.  Down…You gotta lose all feelin.  Now…When the chips are down.  -Terror Squad

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  You may say clutch hitting does not exist.  You may say it is mostly imaginary.  You may say that every at bat can have an impact on the final score.  You can say whatever you want.  It’s a free country.  I say Bobby Thompson’s Shot Heard Round the World was clutch.  I say Vic Davalillo’s drag bunt was clutch.  I say Dave Henderson’s two run shot off of Donnie Moore was clutch.  I say What Tom Cheek said.  I say, ”Joe Carter, you will never hit a bigger home run in your life!”  See, I believe in the Church of Baseball.  I’ve tried all the major religions, and most of the minor ones.  I’ve worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, trees, mushrooms, and Isadora Duncan.  I know things.  I know Joey Votto is the clutchest hitter in baseball today.        Read More »

Game Of The Night: UCLA v. South Carolina

Game Of The Night: UCLA v. South Carolina

(ESPN 7:30PM ET)  It’s make or break time for UCLA.  Like my main man Ricky Bobby always says, shake and bake time for UCLA.  Last night, the Bruins managed just one hit through the first eight innings and played as flat as a pancake.  Not the big fluffy pancakes like you get at Buttermilk Inc., but the flat kind.  The really, really flat kind like the kind Lisa Dougals used to make on Green Acres.  Now UCLA needs to win two in a row to become just the third team to win the CWS after losing the first game.  Get your popcorn ready!

It takes two to make a thing go right.  It takes two to make it outta sight.  Hit it!  -Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  Just a quick little fun one.  A here we come on the run with a burger and a bun one.  And a dish of apple sauce on the siiiiiide!  Rookie rookie, who gets the cookie?   I’m gonna ask you a simple question and I want you to listen to me:  Who’s the big winner here tonight at the casino?  Huh?  Well, actually, there’s two big winners. Two guys win.           Read More »

Scott Rolen: Comeback Player Of The Year

Scott Rolen: Comeback Player Of The Year

I’ve been gone so long, so, gone so long.  But I will come back.  I will come back for you.  -Foo Fighters

Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go!  Remember Scott Rolen?  Rookie of the Year Scott Rolen?  Five-time All Star Scott Rolen?  Seven-time Gold Glover Scott Rolen?  Ya, that Scott Rolen.  Well, that Scott Rolen incurred a rash of injuries and fell out of the limelilght for quite some time.  Taken out of the good fight for quite some time.  Hidden from our sight for quite some time.  He injured his shoulder in a collision with Dodgers first baseman Hee-Seop Choi back in ’05.  That injury resulted in surgery and years of trouble in St. Louis.  Then, last year with Toronto, he suffered a fractured finger during spring training.  After missing the first five weeks of the regular season, things were finally looking good for Rolen.  Not so fast!  Another bout with shoulder woes landed him on the DL again in late August.  Egads man, the guy just couldn’t stay healthy.  Well sports fans, he’s healthy now.       Read More »
