LeBron Proves Oscar WorthyLeBron Proves Oscar Worthy

I wanna be like you.  I wanna talk like you.  Walk like you, too.  You’ll see it’s true.  Someone like me can learn to be like someone like you.  -Jungle Book

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  Last night was the clash of the titans.  Optimus Prime v. Megatron.  Superman v. Lex Luther.  Ali v. Frazier.  Down goes Frazier!  Down goes Frazier!  Down goes Frazier!  Down goes LeBron.  Last night, LeBron and his Cavaliers’ 13-game winning streak went down at the hands of Carmelo Anthony’s last second jump shot for the winner winner chicken dinner in overtime.  Hooray Carmelo Anthony!  But LeBron did some things himself.

Last night, with Oscar Robertson in attendance, Bron-Bron amassed 43 points, 15 assists and 13 boards.  Sweet sassy molassy!  Last night, with Oscar Robertson in attendance, Bron-Bron became the first player since Pete Maravich in 1974 to amass at least 40 points, 15 assists and 10 boards in a game.   Good for him.  Pete Maravich was good.  Real good.  But Pete Maravich was no Oscar Robertson.   I served with the Big O.  I knew the Big O.  The Big O was a friend of mine.  Senator, you’re no Big O.

Pistol Pete might not be, but LeBron sure is close.  Last night, not only was LeBron the first player since Pete Maravich in 1974 to amass at least 40 points, 15 assists and 10 boards in one game, he is now only the second player  in NBA history to register more than 40 points, more than 10 rebounds and at least 15 assists in a game.  That’s right, you guessed it, Oscar Robertson had 42 points, 15 rebounds and 18 assists back in 1962.

The comparisons between the Big O and LeBron James have been limitless.  A few years back, in a preseason NBA commercial, LeBron James himself admitted it was his New Year’s resolution to average a triple-double for an entire season.  While it it is nearly impossible to compare players across generations, if there were ever two players to be compared, those two players would most surely be Oscar Robertson and LeBron James.

Public Spectacle:

Peace out homies.  Six two and Even!
