Super Bowl Shootout

Tonight there’s gonna be a jailbreak somewhere in this town.  See me and the boys we don’t like it, so were getting up and going down.  -Thin Lizzy

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  Colts v. Saints.  Manning v. Brees.  Clash of the Titans.  Optimus Prime v.  Megatron.  Godzilla against the Smog Monster.  Ali against Frazier.  Mano y mano.  Manos de Piedra.  Fight to the finish.  They’re strong to the finish ’cause they eat their the spinach.  Yes sports fans with these to gunslingers at the helm it’s gonna be a shootout.  Like my main nas always says, “Shootouts is similar to Wild West.  Broad daylight, face to face without a vest.”  Hooray shootout!  Hooray rootin’ tootout!  Sweeter than passion fruitout.

This will be a game for the ages.  Remember Woody Hayes’ Ohio State teams?  Remember three yards and a cloud of dust?  This won’t be that.  Peyton Manning, that six-five, 230-pound quarterback with a laser rocket arm, is coming off another MVP season.  Drew Brees, fresh off his fourth straight 4,000 yard season, just beat out Manning to win the FedEx Air NFL Player of the year award.  These two pass happy quarterbacks are going to pile up some yards.  These two pass happy quarterbacks are going to pile up some points.

You know what the man says.  The man says defense wins championships.  You better listen what the man says.  Listen as you might, neither defense in this here Super Bowl is really equipped to stop either passer.  Both defensive backfields know the burden is on their shoulders to slow down these two spectacular arms.

The Saints have Darren Sharper.  Sharper is the big man in the Saints’ big play defense.  Nine big interceptions.  Three big run backs to the hizzouse.  The Colts have Antoine Bethea.  The little man who lays on the big hits led the Colts in 2009 in total tackles and interceptions.  His high flyin’, electrifyn’ acrobatic pick late in the divisional game sealed the Colts’ victory over the Ravens.  But that’s about it.

This bunch of Super Bowl defensive backs are a rather anonymous bunch indeed.  One banana, two banana, three banana, four.  Four bananas make a bunch and so do many more.  The Colts ranked 14th against the pass.  They ranked 14th because of a pass rush led by Dwight Freeney.  They ranked 14th because of a guy who might not even play.  The Saints ranked 26th.  In a Super Bowl dominated by two of this generation’s best passers, that hardly seems like a recipe for success.

So yes, defense does win championships.  In this game, in this game with Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, the defense that gives their team the ball last, has the best chance to win.

Public Spectacle:

Peace out homies.  Six two and Even!

Share the love baby!
