Rotnei Clarke: Nothing But Net

Three is a magic number.  Yes it is, it’s a magic number.  Somewhere in the ancient, mystic trinity you get three as a magic number.  -Schoolhouse Rock

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  Maybe you never heard of Rotnei Clarke.  Maybe you didn’t hear about him, you’ve been away a long time.  They didn’t go up there and tell you.  They didn’t go up there and tell you Rotnei Clarke can shoot the basketball.  The rootinest tootinest shootenist gun in all the land.  Like my main man Blondie always says, “When you have to shoot, shoot, don’t talk.”  Rotnei Clarke shoots all right.  He was the top freshman three-point shooter in the nation last year.  He made four or more three-pointers eight times in the final 10 games.  His 83 made threes are the most for a Razorback since Jannero Pargo was 95-of-220 in 2002.  This year, he’s picking up right where he left off.

This year, he leads the nation in three pointers made with 43.  This year, of all players with at least 30 three pointers made, he has the highest three point shooting percentage.  Not bad, right?  Clarke has been a bright spot in a difficult season for the Razorbacks.  A difficult season made more difficult as they continue to play without suspended point guard Courtney Fortson.  Rotnei Clarke makes things a little easier.

He scored a Bud Walton Arena-record and an Arkansas Razorback record by pouring in 51 points in the season-opening victory over Alcorn State.  He did this while setting an SEC record knocking down 13 from beyond the arc.  Knock knock.  Who’s there?  Rotnei Clarke bitch!  He might have scored 60 points, but went to the bench with five minutes remaining.

Lately, Clarke has been battling knee tendinitis.  After starting every game for the Razorbacks last season, he just missed one game and came off the bench to score 9 points in 27 minutes in Saturday’s 72-69 victory over Stephen F. Austin.  He’ll be ready tonight against undefeated Missouri State.  He’ll need to be.  Arkansas can’t win without him.

Public Spectacle:

Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
