Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go!  It’s college basketball baby!  Diaper Dandies.  PTPers.  Maalox Mashers.  Dipsy-doo dunkeroo slam-jam-bams.   Call the fire chief cause he’s on fire!.  All of it.  Had enough of all this football nonsense?  Can’t keep it up much longer?  You need a break?  You wanna talk basketball?  Today we’re talking basketball.  Today were’ talking about college basketball’s best kept secret.  Today we’re talking about Mississippi State’s own Jarvis Varnado.    

How ’bout them Dogs!  How ’bout that Jarvis Varnado?  In case you haven’t been watching, in case you haven’t been paying attention, Jarvis Varnado of Mississippi State is a monster of a shot blocker.    A Frankenstein of a shot blocker.  A King Kong of a shot a blocker.  A Godzilla of a shot blocker.  Forget Marvin Webster, this is the new Human Eraser.

They call him Swat.  Alabama coach Mark Gottfried says he swats the ball like Bill Russell.  That’s some pretty high praise.  He deserves it.  He is clearly the best shot blocker in the nation.   Blocking shots with speed, with quickness.  He gets to the ball fast.  He gets to the ball two men removed.  My posse come quick, because my posse got velocity.  He gets to the ball, period.

That’s the good news.  The bad news is Mississippi State has been without their star senior center in practice this week as he recovers from a hand injury suffered in last Saturday’s win over Old Dominion.  Don’t it figure?  Varnado dislocated the pinky and ring fingers of his left hand attempting to block a shot in the first few minutes of that game.  But don’t you worry, Swat will be back.  He’ll be back blocking shots in a town near you!
