I struggled with who and what to write about. There are so many players that could have a huge impact on their club if they can step up and either improve or get playing time. I appreciate the optimism about Majok and UConn, but still don't think they will be at the top of the conference when all is said and done. They have the potential to be near the top, but right now, they are sitting somewhere near the higher middle zone trying to develop an identity.

Going into the season, I was thinking the Big East might be just the 3rd or 4th best conference in the country. After a few weeks of play, however, I have reason to believe that this will once again be the best conference in the country. By my count, they have 11 teams with a good chance to make the NCAAs. I don't think the conference will ever be as strong as it was last year, when it claimed 3 #1 seeds, but this league is still a beast.

One thing you left out about UConn is the upcoming debut of Ater Majok. This guy has the potential to be a star, and I have heard nothing but rave reviews. I will admit that I'm extremely biased, but I feel like UConn can definitely contend in this league, and might even be its best team by the time February rolls around. We'll see.

You hit the nail right on the head. All these guys have the ability to recruit, manage games, get their kids to play for them and buy into their systems. I rarely see or hear of players wanting to transfer after a year or so from the start of their careers. Shows the respect and brand these coaches have built for themselves and the Big East Conference as a whole.

Thanks! You brought up an excellent point about coaches. Look down the list, it tells you why perennially this is one of the best, if not the best conference. Names like Rick Pitino, Jimmy Boeheim, Jim Calhoun, and Bob Huggins and some younger talented coaches who are starting to, or already have, made a splash, Jay Wright, Jamie Dixon, and John Thompson III. That's like a who's who in college basketball.

I really love the Big East Conference. They show up every year and are the most competitive league. It's always a pleasure watching the conference games and of course the Big East Tourney. I really like Syracuse because Boeheim even though may be under manned talent wise, always gets his teams up to play each night. I'm really looking to see how Calhoun handles the departure of Thabeet in the middle. Also, Louisville may make some noise going forward this season.. Pitino is a pretty darned good coach. Great read!
