Bobby Bowden: A Legend Retires

By: B-Dogg on: Tuesday, December 1, 2009 @3:24 pm

Dadgum!  When you think of college football and Florida State, only one name comes to mind, Bobby Bowden. Since 1976, Bowden has been a staple figure in college football and has influenced dozens of coaches and thousands of players throughout his long career. He entered the game as a good-hearted offensive coordinator at Howard University and he leaves the sport 55 years later as one of the greatest motivators of all time.

Bowden’s numbers are almost unfathomable. In his career as a coach, Bowden is a combined 388–141–4, going 21-10-1 in bowl games. Throughout Bowden’s 34 year career at Florida State he had only had one losing season (5-6), and that was his first year in 1976. Along with the win totals, Bowden has won 2 national titles and a staggering 12 ACC titles since Florida State joined the conference in 1991. The most prestigious title Bowden holds is Hall of Famer. In 2006, he became one of the few active coaches to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

My hats off to a legend in the sport of college football. His contributions to the game are priceless and his impact will always be felt at Florida State and beyond.
