Struck me kinda funny. Seemed kinda funny, sir, to me. Still at the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe. -Bruce Springsteen
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Yesterday I said some things. I insulted Drew Brees a little bit. I got a little bit out of order myself. I’m sorry. I insulted him a little bit. I said something like, “You see, in this world there’s two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. Tonight, Tom Brady has the loaded guns. Tonight, Drew Brees digs.” I couldn’t have been any wrongerer.
Last night, I watched this Drew Brees character first hand. Last night, I watched this Drew Brees character singlehandedly dismantle my hero, Tom Brady, and my beloved New England Patriots. I watched New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees throw five touchdowns en route to a 38-17 victory. Yes folks, then I saw her face, now I’m a believer. Not a trace of doubt in my mind. I’m in love, I’m a believer! I couldn’t leave her if I tried.
There was Drew Brees, on the first play from scrimmage, dropping a 33-yard pass just over Devery Henderson’s shoulder. Right then and there, you knew. You knew the vaunted New England Patriots were going to be in for a long night. A very long night indeed.
Drew Brees was tremendous. He was stupendous. Without endous. It is he I do commendous. I do commendous his perfect passer rating. I do commendous his 18 of 23 passes. His five touchdowns and no interceptions. Know this Who Dat Nation: Last night, Drew Brees became the second player in NFL history, to in one game, not only throw for 350 or more yards; not only complete at least 75 percent of his passes; not only throw five touchdowns; but do all that while not throwing an interception. Yowza!
Wanna know who the other guy was? Huh? Do ya? The other guy was the guy, down by 21 points last night, who was lifted late in the fourth quarter, replaced by rookie Brian Hoyer, and was relegated to watching the end of a blowout from the sidelines. Yes sports fans, the other guy was none other than Tom Brady himself.
Robert Meachum: “You run out of words with Drew, you really do.” I got a word for ya. How about MVP for a word? Huh? How’s that word sound? Sounds about right to me.
