Longhorn Upset? Really?

All I keep hearing on TV and reading on ESPN about the Texas vs. Texas A&M game tonight at 8pm is a buzz around a potential upset. I understand the history of the rivalry with the Aggies winning 8 of the last 12 games played between these two at Kyle Field in College Station, TX, but this year? Really? The Aggies have the 11th worst pass defense in all of FBS allowing 259 yards through the air per game. But I’m sure that won’t be a problem against the Heisman candidate QB Colt McCoy and his entire fleet of top tier receivers. Oh, and by the way, Colt McCoy is the nation’s most efficient QB completing 73% of his passes.

All that aside, let’s use common sense. Texas is 11-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference. They have one game between them and a probable national championship bowl bid. They are led by the afore mentioned Heisman candidate QB Colt McCoy who has thrown for over 3000 yards, 24 TDs and 9 interceptions. He is supported by an impressive defense that is ranked 3rd in the nation allowing only 238.7 yards per game. On the other side of the field, A&M is 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference. As noted above, they have struggled greatly against decent or strong passing offenses. Their passing offense is strong with QB Jerrod Johnson who has thrown over 2800 yards, 24 TDs, and has had only 5 interceptions, but, as was mentioned above, have a poor defense.

I understand ESPN is trying to hype of the game to gain a larger audience on Thanksgiving night, but a upset in College Station? Not a chance. Hook ‘em Horns, one win away from the Rose Bowl.

BallHype: hype it up!
