Nets, Knicks: The Epitome of SadNets, Knicks: The Epitome of Sad

Okay, so here were are embellished in another season of the NBA and teams are soaring through the early weeks, while others are just scrounging the bottom of the floor trying to float. The New Jersey Nets and New York Knicks are perfect examples of the latter. These teams are just god awful. As a Knicks fan, it nauseates me to watch their brand of basketball for the past three years. The Nets, well if the attendance doesn’t say enough, it should.

Both of these teams squared off on Saturday and what a thriller it was. Devin Harris made his return for the Nets, who really need him to even stay in games at this point. The Knicks took the floor with their usual guard orientated line up with the insertion of Eddy Curry at the big man spot for a change. By the way, Knicks fans, Eddy Curry is no answer or close to a question at this point. The guy flat out stinks! Why are these franchises so bad? Let’s take a look deeper and see where the problems lie.

First off, the Knicks management has made bad decisions the past three to four years and fans really have grown accustomed to expecting nothing more. For instance, the most recent decision that was forced to the forefront was the possible addition of Allen Iverson. The Knicks again pass. Why? Who knows! The original thought was that he didn’t fit into the plans of the team moving forward. Well that’s nice, because I’m sure there are many fans and teams around the league wondering what the heck their plan is essentially. The Knicks roster is not set in stone moving forward to next year’s free agency push. Robinson, Lee, Chandler, Duhon, Curry are all possible trade moves and will most likely not be wearing a Knicks jersey next season.

So not signing Iverson for a year contract to ride out this season wasn’t really a good move? Yeah, you’re right because the fans wouldn’t enjoy watching a future Hall of Famer play night in and night out at the Garden with the opportunity to play his style of basketball in D’Antoni’s offensive system. Allen Iverson would be such a distraction in the big city because he would be able to get his shots and make plays happen. Are you nuts? At least give the fans an exciting wave to ride by watching this guy as we move forward to the free agent push!

The Nets. Wow, where do we begin? Injuries are surely hampering their ability to get people in uniform even for practices, which is tough to get work done in between games. Understandable. But please, Rafer Alston is not the point guard for this team. Thank god Devin Harris is back and if you’re a Nets fan, pray he stays healthy and with this team for a few years to come. He is a true play maker and can score at will when he is on a roll. Brook Lopez is by far the other best player on the floor. He rebounds, plays hard under the boards and poses a great scoring threat on opposing big men. Everyone else, you stink!

Josh Boone is down right horrible who shoots free throws as good as Shaq in his prime. Terrance Williams has a lot of upside, but developing a consistent jumper/three point shot should be first on his agenda. Bobby Simmons, you’re time is almost up! Also, Yi Jianlian is inconsistent at best, so maybe a few good games here and there when he’s back, but nothing more. I feel bad for you Mr. Lawrence Frank, because quite frankly you have next to nothing to work with. Nets fans should be happy if this franchise wins close to 20 games this season. Anything more and give yourselves a pat on the back!
