I’ve got the D double O, D double O style. Here we go again because it’s been a while. Do me a favor don’t touch that dial. I rock from Manhattan to the Miracle Mile. -Beastie Boys
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Hibachi! You can call him Agent Zero. You can call him the Black President. You can call him the East Coast Assasin. You can call him the Jester. Heck, you can even call him Nacho, but ya doesn’t have to call him Johnson. Last night, the man with as many pseudonyms as Clinton Portis may have just earned himself another one. How does Double Trouble sound? Double, double toil and trouble. Fire burn, and caldron bubble. Last night, Gilbert Arenas earned himself a double-double, and not the good kind.
During the Heat/Wizards game, Gilbert Arenas was charged with 12 turnovers. That in itself would be bad enough. That in itself ties the fourth-highest total since the NBA began recording turnovers for individuals in 1977. But the awfulness didn’t end there. Oh, no. Arenas made only 7 of 20 field goals. Egads man! That makes him just the sixth player with at least a dozen turnovers and a doxwen missed shots in one game. That makes him the first to do it since Allen Iverson did it in 2005.
About an hour before game time, after running through pregame warmups, Arenas and team trainers informed coach Flip Saunders that the sore right calf that had kept Gilbert out of Monday’s practice, was too tight for him to play. That’s not good. But 10 minutes before tipoff, Arenas changed his mind. That was worse.
With Arenas back, a lot of folks figured the Washington Wizards figure would be among the best teams in the NBA’s Eastern Conference this season. Folks were absolutely certain that if they had everyone available for a change, they would quickly turn things around. Don’t turn around, uh oh. Der Kommissar’s in town, uh oh. Folks figured thatunder new head coach Flip Saunders, the Wizards would prove to the world that last season’s worst-in-team-history 19-63 debacle was merely an aberration.
It all starts with the Hibachi. DeShawn Stevenson: “He’s the franchise.” Yes he is DeShawn, yes he is. But if Agent Zero continues to put up stinkers like he did last night, especially againt a division rival, these Wizars are going nowhere. Nowhere fast.
