Wanna get dirty ? It’s about time that I came to start the party. Sweat dripping over my body. Dancing getting just a little naughty. Wanna get dirty? It’s about time for my arrival. -Christina Aguilera
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! If you’ve been watching this year’s rendition of the MLB post season, you already know. You already know Cliff Lee is nasty. You already know Cliff Lee is filthy. You already know he is obscene, vile, repugnant, repulsive and revolting. Obviously nobody can beat Don Larsen’s World Series perfect game, but Cliff Lee is in the discussion for the second-best pitched game in the World Series. And that’s something. Ain’t it? Sure it is.
Who needs Doc Halladay? Not the Phillies. They got Cliff Lee. While going the distance, Lee lowered his career postseason ERA to 0.54. For those of you keeping score at home, you should know, that’s the best mark recorded by a pitcher who has completed at least 30 postseason innings. That’s pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.
You should also know, he’s just the third pitcher in World Series history to strike out 10 or more batters in one game without allowing a walk and he’s the first do so without allowing an earned run. The other 10-K, no-walk pitchers were Don Newcombe in Game 1 of the 1949 World Series and Deacon Phillippe in the first ever World Series game in 1903. That’s good. Historically good.
Last night, Lee was something to behold. Not only did he find the strike zone all game, he played defense. He made catches. Fun catches. Circus catches. Look Ma, no hands, catches. Shane Victorino: “He definitely was in a zone tonight.” Yes Shane, he was. He’s been in the zone all playoffs.
