Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! I have a confession. Ever since the Islanders drafted John Tavares, I have been secretly taking peeks to see him in action. I’m like Lady Godiva’s tailor. I peeked again last night. I peeked and I saw Tavares put the biscuit in the basket for the winner winner chicken dinner shootout goal. Hooray John Tavares! Hooray Islanders!
Congratulations! You broke your cherry! I’m proud of you. Now remember, never rat on your friends…and always keep your mouth shut. It’s about time. With that winner winner chicken dinner shootout goal, John Tavares and the New York Islanders won their first game of the season. That wasn’t the only cherry breakin’ goin’ on. Last night was the first time that the Islanders have ever had a “perfect” 3-for-3 shootout, something that’s been done only 21 times by other NHL teams. Something I thought you might like to know.
Now, as I’ve been sneaking peeks at John Tavares, I couldn’t help but notice another Islander doing some things. I couldn’t help but notice Matt Moulson. Matt Moulson was signed by the Islanders as a free agent this summer. Last night, Moullson scored the first goal of game against the Hurricanes. Last night Moulson extended his goal-scoring streak to four games. Over the last three seasons, the only other player to score goals in four consecutive team games for the offensively-challenged Islanders is Kyle Okposo, who had a pair of four-game streaks last season.
So like my main the Chairman of the Board always says, “The best is yet to come, and won’t that be fine. You think you’ve seen the sun, but you aint seen it shine.” Islanders fans are beginning to see the light. Now if they can only hold on to this team long enough to get a full blown sunburn that would truly be fine.
