Tim McClelland Is No Ben Dreith

By: josh q. public on: Wednesday, October 21, 2009 @2:54 pm

I can promise you that by the time we get through the world will never ever be the same.  And you’re to blame.  Oh, it’s what you do to me.  Oh, it’s what you do to me.  What you do to me.  -Plain White

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  Above you see two videos.  One is the Tim McClelland video that is like Saivoir Faire.  It’s everywhere.  The other is Ben Dreith.  It’s not the Ben Dreith I wanted.  It’s the only Ben Dreith I could find.  The one I wanted is far more dubious.   Which dubious you beous?  What’s Happening style.  The one I wanted is the one that crushed all my hopes and dreams.

The New England Patriots weren’t always good.  In fact, for my most of my life, they were downright pathetic.  But in 1976 they were good.  Best team in football good.  Steve Grogan, Sam Bam Cunningham, Russ Francis, Mike Haynes, John  Hannah good.  That’s when it happened.  Thats when I saw her, ooh, I saw her.  She walked in through the out door, out door.

Ben Dreith walked in through the out door, out door.  During the 1976 playoff game between the Oakland Raiders and my beloved New England Patriots, Dreith called a roughing-the-passer penalty on Patriots tackle Ray “Sugar Bear” Hamilton.  He called a roughing-the-passer penalty on Patriots tackle Ray “Sugar Bear” Hamilton that nullified a third down incompletion.   It nullified a third down incompletion and and gave the Raiders an automatic first down deep in New England territory.  It gave the Raiders an automatic first down deep in New England territory and led to Oakland’s game-winning touchdown with less than a minute left.  Worst call, that to this this day, remains the worst call I’ve ever seen in my life.

Replays showed there was no illegal contact. Because of said replays, the league never assigned Dreith to officiate Patriots games again.  Yes sports fans, the McClelland calls last night were bad.  They were very bad.  The were not game changing.  The were not game rearranging.  Not ones that make you want him to stand before a firing ranging.  Ben Dreith’s was.  I will hate hate him forever and ever.  Amen.

Peace out homies.  Six two and Even!

The Snow Bowl game made the painful memory of Ben Dreith easier to live with. Your post reminded me of a posting I made earlier in the year. I get a little wordy but you might find it interesting.
The baseball playoffs are too painful for me to watch this year so I missed the McClelland call. Too bad for all concerned because it ruins the game.
    Nice work Josh.
