All A Rod All The Time

How ya like me now?  The river will not allow you to get with, Mr. Smith, dont riff.  Listen to my gear shift.  -LL Cool J

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  I’ve given grief to dear old Alex Rodriguez as much as the next guy.  Probably more than the next guy.  Not no more.  Not with what this guy is done doing.

All this guy done did last night was get himself three hits.  All this guy done did last night was get himself  a ding-dong.  All this guy done did last night was get himself two RBIs, three runs scored, a stolen base and a walk in the Yankees victory over the Angels.   Hooray A-Rod!

Since 1920, the first year that RBIs were officially recorded in the major leagues, only one other player reached all six of those statistical levels in one postseason game.  Only the Phillies’ Lenny Dykstra in Game Four of the 1993 World Series vs. Toronto.  Nails and A-Rod.  That’s it.  That’s the list.  No, to the chagrin of many Yankees fans, there is no Derek Jeter on that list.  But wait, there’s more!

Rodriguez has five ding-dongs and 11 RBIs in this here postseason.  Yowza!  The only other player to hit at least five ding-dongs and drive in 10-or-more runs in his first seven games of one postseason was Carlos Beltran (six HR and 12 RBIs) for Houston in 2004.  That’s it.  Again, no Derek Jeter on that list.  Pinky, are you pondering what I’m pondering?  I think so, Brain, but this time, you put the trousers on the chimp.

What I’m pondering is, is this:  If and when the Yankees do win this thing, Yankees fans will have to come to terms.  They will have to come to terms with one Alex Rodriguez.  They will have to come to terms that he is the best baseball player on this here baseball team.  Him, not Employee Number Two.  What exactly do you do, Mr. Number Two?  That’s my business.  Now if you’ll excuse, I have to go to the little boys’ room.  Number Thirteen don’t use no little boy’s room.  He’s all man, man.

Peace out homies.  Six two and Even!
