SNF: Afternoon Delight!

By: Justin McGrail on: Saturday, October 3, 2009 @3:36 pm

For the next few weeks, I’ll be posting SNF in the afternoon due to Canobie Lake Park’s Screemfest. So now, on to the picks:

QBs

Start:
Jay Cutler (@DET):
As much as I feel for the Lions and am happy for them that they got their first win last week, Cutler is too good of a quarterback. He’s targeting Devin Hester more and that’s leading to TDs for Da Bears
Carson Palmer (@CLE): This year’s Browns are shaping up to be last year’s Lions. Palmer got his mojo back with that 4th quarter drive last week. He’s gonna go off on Cleveland’s secondary
Eli Manning (@KC): The Chefs (that’s not a typo if you know the commercial I’m referring to) aren’t looking too god either. Cassel hasn’t found his rhythm and the defense is spotty at best. Manning will spread the ball around and get a bunch of points
Shaun Hill (@STL): Vernon Davis decided to stop sucking this year and is making Hill look really good in the red zone. Lots of points should be scored in this game

Sit:
Tom Brady (@BAL):
I don’t know if anyone else saw Ray Lewis shoot the gap against SD two weeks ago, if the O line lets that happen then Brady will be in for a long day
Kyle Orton (@DAL): I know the Broncos are 3-0 right now but Dalls has a good front 7 that will cause havoc in the backfield against Orton and whoever the Broncos throw in at RB
Brett Favre (@GB): I’m gonna probably come close to hanging myself on Monday because everybody can’t stop talking about Brett Favre playing the Pack again but I think GB steps up and hands the Vikes a rare home loss. If they can bottle up AD, which isn’t easy to do, the Favre will go to gunslinger mode and throw at least 3 picks.
Mark Sanchez (@NO): The Saints have a top 5 run defense, which should force Sanchez to throw a lot more than he has before. With Darren Sharper roaming the secondary at FS, he’ll be in Sanchez’s head all day

RBs

Start:
Tashard Choice (@DEN):
His value skyrocketed after Barber went down and he didn’t disappoint. He got me 19 points in my money league and singlehandedly won that game for me. He’ll get the same amount of carries if not more because Felix Jones is down and Barber isn’t at 100% but said he’d play. Hopefully he blows up again
Clinton Portis (@TB): The Bucs are 31st in run defense. Pair that with CP’s tough running style and he’ll make his owners happy this week
Steve Slaton (@OAK): I know I said to sit him last week but he drastically improved his numbers last week and he’ll keep the momentum going against a weak Raiders D
Darren McFadden (@HOU): Houston is last against the run and DMC has been looking good against some tough teams. He’ll have a field day on Sunday

Sit:
Fred Taylor (@BAL): The Ravens lead the league against the run. And the Pats are using some weird rotation of RBs so Taylor won’t find his stride against the Ravens front 7
Marshawn Lynch (@MIA): Most owners will want to start him but he’ll be rusty, he’ll split carries with Fred Jackson and Miami is 3rd against the run. Not a good combo for Lynch owners
Darren Sproles (@PIT): The Steelers are still a top 10 run defense and they’ll look to rebound from the last second loss against Cincinatti
Thomas Jones (@NO): Jones will be splitting carries with Leon Washington and The Saints run defense is 5th in the league. Not a good day for Jones

WRs

Start:
Devin Hester (@DET):
Hester had a big TD late in the game against Seattle. He’s getting more comfortable at WR and connecting better with Cutler
Braylan Edwards (@CIN): Edwards has a better chemistry with Derek Anderson. DA loves throwing the deep ball which can get him in trouble but Edwards will be there to bail him out this week
Davone Bess (@BUF): Bess’s stock has gone up because Ted Ginn Jr. has been dropping easy passes and Bess seems to have a better connection with Chad Henne. He’ll get a lot of looks against the Bills
Devery Henderson (@NYJ): The Jets will most likely double Colston so Henderson will get a lot more looks. Brees does a good job of spreading the ball anyway but Henderson will get the most looks because of the coverage

Sit:
Derrick Mason (@NE):
New England has been quietly stopping the pass. They’re 6th in the league right now and they will play better to prove to the critics that their defense is still as good as it always was
Roy Williams (@DEN): Brian Dawkins and Champ Bailey are leading the Broncos to the second best pass defense in the league. Williams will get doubled and not put up a lot of points
Nate Burleson (@IND): There are a lot of factors going against the Seahawks receivers this week. They’re starting their backup, Seneca Wallace, the Colts are a top 10 pass defense and they’re on the road.
Greg Jennings (@MIN): The Vikes are numer 4 against the pass and Donald Driver has been getting more looks over the past couple weeks. Jennings will likely get doubled which will open opportunities for Driver

D/ST:

Start:
New York Giants (@KC):
The Giants are number two in total defense. Couple that with a useless Chiefs offense and the Giants D will put up big numbers
Indianapolis Colts (@SEA): The Seahawks offense is also struggling and if the offense can stay on the field for more than 13 minutes the entire game then the Colts D will have a good day
San Francisco 49ers (@STL): Kyle Boller looks better than Marc Bulger but Coach Singletary has the Niners D playing tough. Their D will overmatch the Rams offense
Tennessee Titans (@JAC): Maurice Jones-Drew is the only offense for the Jags so if the Titans keep him in check then they’ll have a field day when Jacksonville tries to go to the air

Sit:
New York Jets (@NO):
The Saints are number one in total offense. Even though Brees had an off fantasy week, the Saints still won and they want to make a statement against the new look Jets D
Pittsburgh Steelers (@SD): Rivers is making Vincent Jackson look really good so far and now that LT is back, their offense should give the Steelers a tough time
New England Patriots (@BAL): The Pats are very mysterious about their injuries and the Ravens have a three headed rushing attack that will give the run defense lots of problems
Washington Redskins (@TB): The Buccaneers are starting a new QB who can do more than Leftwich can. Josh Johnson is more mobile which is something else the Skins have to prepare for

Waiver Wire:
Josh Johnson, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@WAS):
Johnson is a mobile quarterback and set a Division 1-AA record for passing efficiency at University of San Diego
Johnny Knox, WR, Chicago Bears (@DET): If Hester is covered, Knox will get some looks. He had a clutch TD catch in The Bears first win

That’s all I got. Leave some comments if you agree/disagree. Later!
