Red Sox Yankees: This Aint Over

I’m half the man I used to be, this feeling as the dawn it fades to gray.  I’m half the man I used to be, this feeling as the dawn it fades to gray.  -Nirvana

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  Well so much for the sweep.  So much for me getting a good night’s sleep.  After last night, nothing worked.  Not even counting sheep.  Nothing worked for Red Sox pitching either.  Last night, Big Game John Smoltz came up small.  Last night, even though opposing right-handed batters were 0-for-5 against Smoltzie, he could not get out the lefties.  Well, that’s not entirely true.  He got out four lefties.  Hooray Smoltzie!  However, Yankees left-handed hitters went 9-for-13 against Smoltz.  Yankees left-handed hitters continued a trend that lately has spun out of control.  Lately, lefty swingers now have 28 hits in their last 44 at-bats against Smoltz (.636), after starting the season 12-for-46 (.261).  Lately this vaunted Red Sox pitching staff has been showing some holes.

In the biggest game of the year to date, the Yankees lashed 18 hits in their 13-6 win over my beloved Red Sox.  In the biggest game of the year to date, the Yankees lashed nine hits each against future Hall of Famer Big Game John Smoltz and Bomber reject Billy Traber.  Know this fellow Red Sox fans, the last time two Sox pitchers allowed at least nine hits in the same game was 75 years ago.  75 years ago!  Back on June 6, 1934, the Yankees tagged Hall of Famer Lefty Grove (13) and Hank Johnson (12) for a total of 25 hits at Fenway Park.  Spooky.

But that’s enough Chicken Little for one day.  This thing ain’t over.  Nothing’s over until we say it is.  Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?  Hell no!  The sky is not falling.  It’s not the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.  I feel fine because I believe these Red Sox are better than the Yankees.  Simple as that.

So there’s no need for all this doom and gloom.  Not when we got Boom Boom.  Boom Boom Beckett that is.  Boom Boom Pow!  Tonight we get even.  Even Steven.  Take your shoes off.  Put your feet up.  Be a Sox watcher!  Watch Boom Boom Beckett and the Boston Red Sox smash the Yankees.  Roll Sox roll!

Public Spectacle:

Peace out homies. Six two and Even!

Share the love baby!

For all of the Red Sox's "smart, bargain" offseason moves, they're still scrambling to plug holes.
