I did it like this, I did it like that, I did it with the whiffle ball bat. So I’m on the run, the cop’s got my gun, right about now it’s time to have some fun. -Beastie Boys.
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! About now, we all know what Cliff Lee’s done did. About now, we all know Cliff Lee followed Friday’s complete-game win in his Phillies debut by holding the Rockies to one run in seven innings in Thursday’s 3-1 victory. We all know Cliff Lee is the first Phillies pitcher since Paul Byrd in 1998 to win his first two appearances for the team and allow fewer than two runs in each. Hooray Cliff Lee. But what about the other guy? What about his battery-mate? What about Paul Bako?
Last night, Paul Bako hit his first home run in a Phillies jersey. You know what that makes him? That makes him the 32nd player to homer for at least eight different teams. Big deal you say? Who cares you say? So what you say? I’ll tell you so what.
I’ll tell you Bako has now hit bombs for as many teams as Gary Sheffield. I’ll tell you Bako has now hit bombs for as many teams as Bobby Bonds. I’ll tell you he has now hit as many bombs for as many teams as those guys there despite a career total of only 22 bombs. Yowza! I’ll also tell you he has now hit as many bombs for as many teams as those guys there despite having the fewest career bombs among the players who went yard for eight or more teams. That’s so what.
