The movie "The Departed" - an adaptation of the Japanese film "Infernal Affairs" prominently features the number four as a bad omen. Like at the end when Damon is in the elevator with Dicaprio and Dicaprio has a gun to Damon's head -- as the elevator passes the fourth floor they both look up at the number 4 all lit up and Damon begs "just kill me" you are right about the japanese being supersititious about the number 4.
