Reveille: Lakers Edition

Lakers 99  Magic 86:  Kobe Bryant says all the You can’t win without Shaq talk was like “Chinese water torture.”  Kobe Bryant says it was annoying.  Kobe Bryant says he would cringe every time heard it.  Just water dripping on his forehead.  One drop at a time.  Drip.  Drip.  Drip.  Well, it’s all water off a Mamba’s back now.  Now it’s like all those 1918 chants Red Sox fans had to endure.  Now, all that talk stops.    

Kobe made it stop.  Kobe Bean averaged 32.4 big points against Orlando during these here NBA Finals.  Kobe Bean averaged 7.4 assists per game against Orlando during the here Finals.  How about that?  How about this?  The only player to match or surpass Bryant’s averages in each those categories in an NBA Finals series was none other than Jerry West.  The Logo averaged 37.9 points and 7.4 assists per game for the Lakers in their 1969 Finals loss to the Celtics.  The Lakers didn’t lose to nobody this time.  Kobe wasn’t having it. 

Lakers 99  Magic 86:  Now you have to know, I do not like Phil Jackson.  Not in a house, not with a mouse.  Not here or there, not anywhere.  I do not like green eggs and ham.  I do not like them, Sam-I-am.  I think what Red Auerbach thinks.  I think, “What the hell does it take to have a ready-made ball club that’s star-studded?”  I think Phil  ”is obviously a good coach.  You don’t win that many games without being a damn good coach…Remember one thing though:  He’s been very fortunate.  He picks his spots.”  He’s picked his spots now for ten NBA Championships.  He’s picked his spots now for 300 playoff games.  Just so you know, that’s more than the total number of postseason games played by twenty-five current NBA franchises.  Twenty-five franchises!  Yowza!
