Last night, Washington forced a decisive seventh game with a 5-4 overtime win at Pittsburgh. Last night, Simeon Varlamov won his fourth potential elimination game of the playoffs. Big deal? So what? I’ll tell you so what. I’ll tell you Little Lord Varlamov is one of only seven goaltenders to win each of the first four career playoff starts in which his team faced elimination. I’ll also tell you he’s the first to do so as a rookie since Chico Resch won each of his first seven for the Islanders in 1975. You can Ovie! Ovie! Ovie! Oi! Oi! Oi! all you like. If not for Simeon Varlamov, the Caps would be toast.
