K Rod: The Lawn Mower Man

Closing time, one last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey or beer.  Closing time, you don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here.  -Semisonic

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  The Mets have a right to complain.  They can complain about their lack of clutch hitting.  I’m looking at you Diamond David Wright.  They can complain about their atrocious fielding.  I’m looking at you Carlos Delgado.  They can complain about their starting pitching.  I’m looking at everyone not named Johan Santana.  The one thing they cannot complain about is their closer.  The one thing they cannot complain about is Francisco Rodriguez.  They cannot complain about the Lawn Mower Man.  All this power isn’t meant to be in the hands of one person!  What you’ve become terrifies me.  You’re a freak!
Move over Mariano.  Dare I say it?  Move over Pap.  Move over cool dogs, a hot dog’s movin’ in.  K-Rod’s movin’ in.    He was movin’ in last year.  Movin’ in and makin’ history.  Takin’ history.  Shakin’ history.  Shook history last year.

Last year, Francisco Rodriguez set the single-season major-league record with 62 saves.  His 203 saves since 2005 are the most by any pitcher over a four-season span since the save rule was instituted in 1969.  Holy cow!  The old mark was Trevor Hoffman’s 179 saves from 1998 through 2001. Trevor Hoffman is not walking through that door, fans. And if you expect him to walk through that door, he’s going to be gray and old.

K-Rod ain’t grey and old.  K-Rod’s only twenty-seven.  K-Rod here got prospects.  He’s bona fide.  He’s bonafide and he’s picking right up where he left off.  Last night, Rodriguez posted the save in the Mets 7-5 victory over the Phillies.  Last night marked the fourth straight day that K-Rod has recorded a save.  Yowza!

You should know this is something he has done only one other time in his career.  You should know only one other pitcher in the Mets’ franchise history has recorded a save on each of four consecutive days.  You should know that man was Braden Looper.  K-Rod’s better than Braden Looper.  K-Rod’s better than just about everybody.

Public Spectacle:

Peace out homies.  Six two and Even!

BallHype: hype it up!
