You don’t have to be a star, baby, to be in my show. Oh, honey, you don’t have to be a star, baby, to be in my show. -Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr.
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! I was one of the ones who did want Stephon Marbury. I did not want him in a house. I did not want him
with a mouse. I did not want him here or there. I did not want him anywhere. Funny thing is, I want him now. Funny thing is, I keep waiting for him to go off now. I keep waiting for the Starbury of old. The Starbury that was was named to the 1997 All-Rookie Team. The two-time All Starbury. The Starbury who was able to score more than twenty points and deliver more than ten assists a night. The running, gunning, I ain’t doning, defender stunning, my Uzi weighs a tonning, all that and a hotdog bunning Starbury. That Starbury there.
In the series against Chicago, that Starbury never reared his tattooed head. He played an important role, yes, but not a Starbury role. With 50.9 seconds left in the 1st quarter on Saturday, Doc Rivers replaced Ragin’ Rondo with Marbury. At the time, the Celtics were trailing 27-20. Next thing you know, with eleven minutes left before the half, Marbury and the C’s turned up the heat. Next thing you know, Marbury and the C’s turned up the heat on defense. Next thing you know, the Bulls scored only one field goal in the rest of the half. The rest, as they say, is history.
But that’s not the history I’m waiting for. That’s not the history I’m anticipating for. Starbury says, “I’m excited.” Starbury says, “The more I play, the better I get.” Starbury says, “The longer that I play, the better I get.” I say, I hope he’s right. I say it sure would be fun for the old Starbury to come out even for just one night. I say I can’t believe what I’m saying. I say what Tommy Heinsohn says. I say, I love Starbury!
Public Spectacle:
