Hawks 91 Heat 78: I wanted the Heat in this one. I wanted to see a Bron Bron v. D-Wade match-up. I’m not gonna get it. Not after what Joe Johnson done did. Yesterday, Joe Johnson had twenty-seven big points. Yesterday, Joe Johnson had five big boards and five big steals steals. How big? I’m glad you asked.
It was almost thirty-two years to the day since Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play the last NBA player had at least twenty-five points, five-or-more rebounds and five-or-more steals in Game Seven of a playoff series. It was almost thirty-two years to the day since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had thirty-six points, twenty-six rebounds and five steals in the Lakers’ series-clinching victory against Golden State in the Western Conference semifinals.
But like Kareem against Bill Walton and the Blazers in the following round, expect Joe Johnson to get swept by Bron-Bron and the Cavs.
Hurricanes 3 Big Bad Bruins 0: I hate to do this one. Makes me irate to do this one. My nerves it does grate to do this one. But this one I shall do. Last night Cam Ward stopped thirty-six shots in his shutout against my beloved Bruins. Just so you know, Ward’s thirty-six saves were the most ever by a Whalers/Hurricanes goaltender in a playoff shutout. Just so you know, the previous high was thirty-two by Hartford’s Mike Liut against the Canadiens in ‘86 and Carolina’s Kevin Weekes versus the Devils in 2002.
Dodgers 7 Padres 3: Kids do the darndest things. Yesterday afternoon, Chad Billingsley did the darndest thing. Yesterday afternoon, Chad Billingsley beat the Padres to improve his record to 5-0. Big deal you say? Who cares you say? I say at twenty-four, Billingsley is only the third pitcher under age twenty-five to start a season 5-0 for a team managed by Joe Torre. I say the other two were Allen Watson (1993 Cardinals) and Andy Pettitte (1997 Yankees). I say this Billingsley kid will be better than the both of them.
Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
Need More? Cam Ward, Carolina Hurricanes, Chad Billingsley, Joe Johnson, Los Angeles Dodgers, MLB, NBA, NHL
