Little Lord Varlamov

Johnny-come-lately, the new kid in town.  Everybody loves you, so don’t let them down. -Eagles

Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go!  Whenever I hear this kid’s name, I think of Harry Potter.  You know, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.  This kid can be named. I name him Simeon Little Lord Varlamov.  Rokie rookie, who gets the cookie?  Simeon, that’s who.  Simeon’s the big winner. Simeon wins.  He won last night all right.  Last night, Little Lord Varlamov got the Capitals their first win of the series with a a shutout win in New York.  Hooray Little Lord Varlamov!

Simeon will turn 21 years old next Monday.  He is the youngest goaltender ever to record a playoff shutout at Madison Square Garden, new or old.  Younger than the Rangers’ own “Sugar Jim” Henry who he shut out the Maple Leafs, 3-0, back in 1942. The only goaltender younger than Varlamov to win a postseason game at MSG was none other than Patrick Roy himself.

Furthermore,  for Little Lord Varlamov is only the second goaltender under the age of 24 to win a playoff game for the Caps.  Jim Carey won two games as a 20-year-old in the 1995 playoffs when he was 14 and 12 days younger than Varlamov was on Monday.  How about that?  Jose Theodore who?

Peace out homies.  Six two and Even!
