No regrets, no love, no tears. Living on my own was the least of my fears.
Bed’s too big without you. Bed’s too big without you. -The Police
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! I’ll make this quick. I’ll make this painless. Jonathan Papbelbon said some things. Jonathan Papelbon said some not very nice things. He said some not very things about Manny Ramirez. He said some not very things about the man who brought his team two World Series rings.
Papelbon said, “He was on a different train! We got rid of him, and we moved on without him.” Papelbon said, “We weren’t afraid to get rid of him. It’s like cancer. That’s what he was. Cancer. He had to go.” Papelbon said, “We got Jason Bay. Johnny Ballgame, plays the game right, plays through broken knees, runs out every ground ball.”
I say that’s all well and good. I say, The Red Sox won two rings in four years thanks in large part to that cancer. Maybe people have gotten complacent. Maybe people are resting on their laurels. Maybe people have forgotten. Forgotten how miserable those 1918 chants actually were. How they made us feel. Made us feel a lot more miserable than Manny’s rumblings ever did, I can tell you that.
Maybe they forgot. Forgot Manny won MVP of the World Series. The first World Series Championship in eighty-six years. Maybe they forgot his walk-off three-run bomb run in Game Two of the ALDS against the California Angels. Maybe they forgot he leads everybody all-time in postseason home runs.
Some look at Manny’s antics and flippantly remark, “Manny thinks he’s bigger that the game.” Know this sports fans, Manny is the hardest working man in show business. He’s the first one in the weight room. He’s the first one at the ballpark. He’s endlessly watching film. He works tirelessly at his craft. Manny talking about the off-season: “I know this might sound funny, but I play baseball. Me and Varitek play in the training field. Can’t get our minds off of it.”
I don’t like what Manny did last year any more than Papelbon does. I don’t like losing more.
Public Spectacle:
Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
Need More? Boston Red Sox, Jonathon Papelbon, MLB, Manny Ramirez
