What Has Money Ball Ever Won?

Money don’t buy everything it’s true.  What it don’t buy I can’t use.  Just give me that money.  That’s what I want.  -The Beatles

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  I’m sick of hearing it.  Every yearing it.  Paul Revering it.  Just me and my horsey and a quart of beering it.  Moneyball this.  Moneyball that.  Just today, in the San Francisco Chronicle, Bruce Jenkins says, “Beane’s latest strategy has A’s in the chase again.”  Like that’s an accomplishment. That’s all Money Ball has ever given the Oakland A’s.  Chase.  It has never won them a gottammed thing.  Like my man Duke Ellington say, “It don’t mean a thing if you ain’t got them rings.”  Well, he says something like that.

I may be in the minority here, but I refuse to bow down to all these statistical geniuses with their pen protectors and their VORP.  What’s it ever won Billy Beane?  Since Beane has become GM of the A’s in ‘97, he’s won his fair share of games.  Since Beane has become GM of the A’s in ‘97, he’s won his fair share of division titles.  But know this sabermetriclomaniacs out there, Money Ball has only made it out of the ALDS once.  Once!  You shouldn’t kick me in the balls, Mrs. Kelly.  My sister kicked me in the balls once.  Once!  Money Ball has never made it to the World Series.  Wake me when it does.

Public Spectacle:

Peace out homies.  Six two and Even!

The Red Sox, who follow many of the philosophies presented in Moneyball but are able to do it with a much larger payroll, have won two World Series in the last five years.

You clearly haven't read Moneyball. You can't even spell it right. You probably think Billy Beane wrote it. Your baseball ignorance is clear.

    Boy are you dumb.

Sorry about that, you're right, Mr. Public.

Also, your response is a nice little ad hominem evasion as opposed to actually answering my first point.

Well, actually you did respond, didn't you? And hey, I'm an internet commenter — calling you dumb is simple manners. What happens next is you call me dumb back, then snarkily address my more substantial earlier point. Is this your first time blogging?
