David Beckham: False Prophet

Don’t you know promises were never made to keep?  Just like the night, dissolve in sleep.  I’ll be your savior, steadfast and true.  I’ll come to your emotional rescue.  -Rolling Stones

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  David Beckham has always maintained his commitment to developing soccer in America.  But now it seems David Beckham will only be able to play in thirteen out of thirty MLS matches this season for the Galaxy.  But now it seems the Savior of American Soccer is also committed to his  ’timeshare’ deal with AC Milan.  Commitment and timeshare are not words that go together like rama lama lama ke ding a de dinga a dong.  They will not be remembered for ever like shoo bop shoo wadda wadda yipitty boom de boom.

We should have known. We have heard this all before.  This “Once in a Lifetime” event has already take place.  Pele, Franz Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto, Giorgio Chinaglia and the Cosmos were already to have saved soccer.  They were to have already saved the North American Soccer League.  The now defunct North American Soccer League.  Where are they now?

When Beckham first arrived, there were tickertape parades.  When Beckham first arrived, there was much dancing.  There’s no joy in Mudville now.  Now, former Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas predicts Beckham will be booed for his decision to abdicate his thrown.  Last month during the Galaxy’s friendly game against Japan’s Oita Trinita, LA fans had already donned masks and t-shirts with the words “Let Beckham Go” scrawled upon them.  David Beckham, whether he wants to face up to it or not, has let a nation of hopeful soccer fans down.  I hope he’s proud of himself.

Public Spectacle:

Peace out homies.  Six two and Even!

He looks like he's wearing a soggy diaper in that pic. But I do enjoy his penchant for showing us ladies the flesh! ;)
