Guess it’s over, call it a day. Sorry that it had to end this way. No reason to pretend. We knew it had to end some day, this way. Johnny Mathis
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Yes sports fans, it looks like Marvin Harrison’s days as a Colt are over. His thirteen year record-setting days as a Colt are over. His eleven year, record setting partnership with the six-five, 230-pound quarterback with the laser rocket arm is over. During those eleven seasons, Manning threw 112 touchdown passes to Harrison, by far the most touchdown passes by any collaborators in NFL history.
Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. Now that the Manning-to-Harrison act is indeed a thing of the past, the highest total of touchdown passes for a pair of active NFL teammates will belong to none other than Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne. It’s no 112 but it is what it is. See this Stanley? This is this. This ain’t something else. From now on, you’re on your own. On their own as the number combo in the league.
You had to know this was coming. Harrison would have counted $13.4 million against the salary cap next season. That’s a figure the Colts cannot afford as they struggle to get under the $123 million cap by the start of free agency. Especially considering Harrison averaged a career-low 10.6 yards per catch in 2008, the third-lowest among the 32 NFL wide receivers that made at least 60 receptions. At thirty-six, Harrison was the second-oldest wideout in the league this past season. Only Joey Galloway was older.
Happy trails Marvin Harrison. It was a good run. A very good run. An historic run.
Public Spectacle:
Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
