Don’t you know that you are a shooting a shooting star, and all the world will love you just as long, as long as you are, a shooting star. -Bad Company
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Everybody knows about Davidson’s Stephen Curry. Everybody knows about the top scorer in the nation. What about the other guy? What about number two? What exactly do you do, Mr. Number Two? That’s my business. Now if you’ll excuse, I have to go to the little boys’ room. Lester Hudson don’t use no little boys’ room. Lester Hudson is a big boy. Tennesse-Martin’s Lester Hudson is the second leading scorer in the nation. He deserves some admiration. Some adoration. Adulation. Affirmation. I’m here to give it to him.
If you haven’t heard of Lester Hudson by now, you’re missing out. You’re missing out on quite a story. Quite a story indeed. Five years ago, Lester Hudson was a playground prodigy from South Memphis. He failed to graduate from high school. He failed to graduate from junior college. At UT-Martin, he got one last shot. He has taken full advantage of that shot.
Last year he put up jaw dropping numbers. Put you in awe dropping numbers. Defying Newton’s First Law dropping numbers. In his first three games played at the Division 1 level, Hudson torched national runner-up Memphis for thirty-five points and recorded the first quadruple-double in Division 1 men’s basketball history. Yowza! Pretty good start. He hasn’t slowed down since.
Know this about Lester Hudson, the kid can shoot. He can shoot from the perimeter. He can shoot from mid-range. He can shoot from any angle. Last night he didn’t shoot so well. Last night, Lester Hudson scored just a meager fifteen points on 4-of-20 from the field. Last night was an aberration. It was the first game this season in which he has not scored at least twenty points. Up until last night, Hudson had been the only player in NCAA Division I to accomplish that feat.
As a twenty-three year old sophomore, expect Lester Hudson to come out early. Expect Lester Hudson to be playing in an NBA arena near you.
Public Spectacle:
Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
