Mike Green The Scoring Machine

Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go!  We all know about Alexander Ovechkin.  We all know Ovie is leading this Washington Capitals team to the top of the Patrick Southeast Division.  There’s another guy on this squad you should take heed of.  That’s pretty good indeed of.  That’s helping this team succeed of.  If you don’t know who that is, you better ask somebody.  Heck, you can ask me.  I’ll tell ya.  I’ll tell you about Mike Green.     

Last night, Mike Green scored two big goals.  Get the papers, get the papers.  Last night, Mike green scored his 20th and 21st goals of the season.  Yes Virginia, the Caps lost in a shootout, but that’s not the story morning glory.  This is the story:  

Those two goals extended Green’s goal-scoring streak to seven games.  Those two goals tied him for the NHL record for defensemen that my boy, Bruins’ Mike O’Connell, set back in ’84.  But wait, don’t touch that dial!  Watch this exciting scene from today’s four-part story of Underdog!  Here it comes now!

Green reached the 20-goal plateau in his 42nd game of the season.  Big deal?  So what?  I’ll tell you so what.  I’ll tell you only three other defensemen in NHL history, all Hall of Famers mind you, needed no more than 42 games to hit the 20-goal mark in a season.  I’ll tell you only number 4, Bobby Orr.  I’ll tell you only Paul Coffey.  I’ll tell you only Denis Potvin.  I’ll tell you this Mike Green is a scoring machine.
