But I’m a substitute for another guy. I look pretty tall but my heels are high. -The Who
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Who woulda thunk? Who woulda thunk when Martin Brodeur went down, the Devils would rise so high. The tide is high and I’m holding on. Who woulda thunk when the best goalie in the free world went down with a torn bicep injury, Scott Clemmensen would hold on so admirably. Admirably Farragut. Damn the torpedpes, full speed ahead! With Clemmensen between the pipes, that’s exactly what the Devils are done doing. They’re damning the torpedoes. They’re going full speed ahead.
The Devils are now atop the Patrick Atlantic Division. The Devils are 8-2 in their last ten. They are those things thanks in large part to one Scott Clemmnsen. Former Boston College Screaming Eagle Scott Clemmensen. And yes, I did have to throw that in.
After taking a shutout into the third period seven previous times this season only to have it broken up, breaking up ain’t hard to do, Scott Clemmensen finally recorded his first shutout of the 2008-09 campaign with a 3-0 win over the Rangers last night. Awww you broke your cherry. Clemmensen’s shutout was the first by a Devils goaltender other than Martin Brodeur since March of ’04. Yowza! Since Clemmensen blanked the Thrashers in Atlanta.
Martin Brodeur had twenty-four regular-season shutouts in the interim. That’s what Satan’s Wallpaper does. He shuts folks out. He shuts folks out all the time. Those twenty-four shutouts are the highest total over that span by any NHL goaltender. Not too shabby right? Neither is this: Brodeur had two more in the playoffs. How about that?
How about this? Clemmensen is also the first Devils’ goaltender other than Martin Brodeur to record a shutout against the Rangers since Sean Burke. Since Sean Burke blanked them more than twenty years ago! Holy cow! It’s not easy filling in for the best goalie we’ve ever seen. The best goalie there’s ever been. The best goalie this side of Henrik Sedin. Scott Clemmensen is making the most of it.
Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
Need More? New Jersey Devils,NHL,Scott Clemmensen
