Lisa Leslie Ready To Retire

I guess this is our last goodbye and you don’t care, so I won’t cry.  But you’ll be sorry when I’m dead and all this guilt will be on your head.  -The Police

Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go!  Sad news WNBA fans, sad news indeed.  Houston Comet news.  According to the LA Times, Lisa Leslie of the Los Angeles Sparks will announce today that this coming season will be her last.  This is big news in the world of women’s basketball.  Really big news.  And unless she pulls a Brett Favre, she will be sorely missed.

Lisa Leslie is the WNBA.  She led the Sparks to two WNBA Championships.  She won three WNBA MVPs.  M-V-P!  M-V-P!  M-V-P!  And her greatest achievement of them all?  The first woman to dunk a basketball.  We here at Josh Q. Public like that one the best.  First man on the moon.  Jackie Robinson.  Lisa Leslie dunking.  I know, but still.

Ann Meyers Drysdale, a Hall of Famer, television analyst and general manager of the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA says, “She’s an icon.”  Hear that LeBron?   She was the first player to reach the 3,000-point mark.  How ’bout you Kobe?  She led the Sparks to two second WNBA titles, was MVP of the finals and the All-Star game.  Sound familiar Tim Duncan

So while the retiring of Lisa Leslie probably won’t get the publicity those aforementioned NBA stars will get, she should.  She was a pioneer.  She was an American hero (4 Gold Medals).  She was is a superstar in every sense of the word.

Public Spectacle:

Peace out homies.  Six two and Even!
