NBA: The Kids Are All Right

But I know sometimes I must get out in the light.  Better leave her behind with the kids, they’re alright.  The kids are alright.  -The Who

Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go!  The NBA’s Diaper Dandies were on full display last night.  Breaking away last night.  Brought the cheese souffle last.  In the Thunder vs. Clippers game last night, Kevin Durant brought the cheese souffle.  Eric Gordon brought the cheese souffle.  Al Thornton brought the cheese souffle.  They brought it real good like.

Last night, in the Thunder vs. Clippers game Kevin Durant scored forty-six big points.  Eric Gordon scored forty-one huge points.  And Al Thornton had thirty-four colossal points of his own.  Yowza!

You may not see the significance of all those points.  That’s what I’m here for.  I’m here to tell you it was only the second game in NBA history in which two players, each in their first or second NBA season, scored forty or more points.  I’m here to tell you the only other time that happened was back in 1971.  I’m here to tell you the only other time that happened was when Nate Tiny Archibald had forty-seven points for the Cincinnati Royals and Pistol Pete Maravich had forty-four for the Atlanta Hawks.  I’m here to tell you anytime your name is mentioned in the same breath as Tiny and Pistol, you’re doing something special.

But wait.  That’s not all.  There’s more.  Not as good, but still.  But still my beating heart.  Last night was the first time since in fourteen years that three players, each in their first or second NBA season, scored thirty or more points.  The names here aren’t as impressive, but still.  But still my beating heart.  The names here are Glenn Big Dog Robinson, Vin Baker and Allan Houston in a Bucks-Pistons game back in 1995.  How about that?

How about this?  Durant also had fifteen rebounds to go with his forty-six points.  Want some fries with that shake?  Over the last thirty years the only other player to have a 45/15 in either their first or second NBA season was none other than the Big Shaqtus.  The Big Cactus.  The Big Galactus.  None other than Shaquille O’Neal himself.  And just so you know,  Shaq Daddy did it twice.

I have seen the future of the NBA and I like what I see.
