Welcome back, your dreams were your ticket out. Welcome back, to that same old place that you laughed about. -John Sebastian
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! What? You thought the Celtics were done? Kaput? Finis? You thought I said, “Are you all right Spider?” Think again. Like my main Mark Twain always says, “The rumors of the Celtics demise have been greatly exaggerated.” Yes sports fans, the Celtics are back. Back with a vengeance. Rapid fire Louie like Rambo got bullets, I’m a gonna die harder like my kid Bruce Willis.
Last night the reigning Champeens of the World took on the hottest basketball team in all the land. Last night the reigning Champeens of the World showed the hottest basketball team in all the land who’s Tony Danza. Last night the reigning Champeens of the World proved they still are for real.
Ever since the Celtics played the part of Whoville to the Los Angeles Grinches on Christmas day, NBA fans everywhere started to wonder. Wah-wah-wah-wah-wonder. Started to wonder if this was the beginning of the end for the team in green. Well, that wondering can finally be put to rest.
It can be put to rest on the heels of a seven game winning streak. Put to rest on the heels of snapping the Orlando Magic’s own seven game winning streak. Put to rest on the back of one Mr. Paul Pierce. And that’s the double truth, Ruth!
The Truth led the Celtics in points. The Truth led the Celtics in rebounds. The Truth led the Celtics in assists. Big deal you say? Who cares you say? I say that marks only the seventh game over the last two seasons, the New Big Three era, in which one Celtics player recorded the team’s highest total, or even shared the team high, in all three of those categories. Yowza! And know this sports fans, the Truth has done it five of those times.
Paul Pierce is not the only reason the Celtics are winning again. Having folks sitting and spinning again. Making them take it on the chinning again. Nope. They’re playing defense again. Tough defense. Rough defense. Tom Thibodeau defense. Like my main man Sheriff Buford T. Justice always says, “You’re going away ’till you’re gray. I got the evidence.” Here’s the evidence right here: Orlando never scored more than five consecutive points in the game. That’s it. The NBA is a game of runs. The Magic never got on one. That’s defense brother. That’s the Boston Celtics brother. NBA, take notice.
Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
