Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Two peas in a pod. Two fruits of the poisonous tree in a pod. Two political detainees in a pod. Barry Bonds and Manny Ramirez. They go together like rama lama lama ke ding a de dinga a dong. Nobody wants these guys. Nobody has signed these guys. I’m beginning to wonder if anybody ever will.
Bonds is much easier to understand, steroids aside. Steroids aside, the man is old. I mean, he recently underwent a hip operation. So did my Grandma Tilly. However, in his last season as a ballplayer, he was an All-Star. In his last season as a ballplayer, he led the National League in on-base percentage. In his last season as a ballplayer, he led the National League in OPS. In his last season as a ballplayer, he led all of baseball in bombs per at bat. Had as many bombs as Magglio Ordonez. More bombs than Vlad Guerrero. More than Carlos Delgado. More than Gary Sheffield. More than those big boppers. Oh baby you know what I like. No one likes Barry Lamar Bonds.
No one seems to be liking Manny either. I understand the Dodgers continue their negotiations with Manny. But, it appears they are not any closer to re-signing their star outfielder. Their All Star outfielder. Their All Star outfielder who almost single-handedly carried that team into and through the playoffs. Manny’s disgraceful, contemptible, dishonorable, disreputable and ignoble antics that he implemented in order to get himself out of Boston, may just keep him out of baseball. Just like Barry is being kept out of baseball.
