Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Alexander Ovechkin v. Sidney Crosby. Hockey new great rivalry. Think Russel/Chamberlain. Think Kobe/Lebron. Think that stuff there, on skates. Like my main woman Louisa May Alcott always says, “Rivalry adds so much to the charms of one’s conquests.”
This conquest had its charms. Last night, Alexander Ovechkin finally got the better of Sid the Kid. Both on the scoreboard and in the box score. The Capitals beat the Penguins, 6-3. Alexander Ovechkin put the biscuit in the basket twice. Get the papers, get the papers. Alexander Ovechkin notched two assists. For those of you at home keeping score, that makes three points in hockey talk.
Big deal you say? Who cares you say? I say Sid the Kid only had two points. I say it was only the second time in thirteen career head-to-head games that Ovechkin had more points than Crosby. I say, in their previous twelve close encounters, Crosby had more points than Ovechkin eight times and three times they had the same total. I say, you don’t need a weatherman
to know which way the wind blows. I say, look out Kid, you’re gonna get hit.
