Tony Dungy: Class Personified

I knew the time was right, so I wrote it.  Here’s the hook, look, so just quote it.  I’m not going out, out, out like that.  -Run DMC

Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go!  Word hat it that Tony Dungy is stepping down as head coach of the Colts.  If this is true, it is a sad sad day for the NFL.  Here is a man who epitomized class.  Here is a man who was the walking embodiment of how a football coach should walk, talk and carry himself.  Here is a man who would not take it anymore.  A man who stood up against the scum, the dogs, the filth, the shit.  Here is someone who stood up.

When Tony Dungy faced Lovie Smith in Super Bowl XLI, it was hailed as the firstSuper Bowl with two black head coaches.  It was, but it was also so much more than that.   Much more than that.  And that, much more than this, I did it my way.

It was a testament to Dungy’s legacy.  Dungy and his protege Smith proved to the world you can be an effective leader and still be a man of principles and values.  For twenty-six years in this league Dungy has a been a man of principles and values.  He will be missed.
