Steve Mason: Shades Of Lou Gehrig

Sooner or later your legs give way, you hit the ground.  Save it for later.  Don’t run away and let me down.  -English Beat

Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go!  Columbus Blue Jackets’ goalie Steve Mason.  Rookie sensation.  Sweeping the nation.  Outta this world like the National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationIf you don’t know, you better ask somebody.  Heck, you can ask me.  Ask me, I’ll tell ya all about it.  Extra, extra!  Read all about it!  Read all about the best young goalie in the NHL today.

Read all about the best guy you never heard of.  All about the leader of the entire NHL in shutouts.  All about the leader of the entire NHL in goals against average.  All about the leader of the entire NHL in save percentage.  Read all about Steve Mason.

Last night, Steve Mason shut down Alexander Ovechkin and the mighty Washington Capitals.  Shut down and shutout Alexander Ovechkin and the mighty Washington Capitals.  Faced forty-five shots.  Stopped forty-five shots.  Goodness!

Mason got the starting job in early November when Pascal LeClaire went down with down with an injury.  Shades of Wally Pipp.  Shades of Drew Bledsoe.  Shades of those guys there.  Will Mason be the next Lou Gehrig?  The next Tom Brady?  Only time will tell, but he’s sure got off to a good start.

Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
