Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! I understand that there are some people in Minnesota who are unhappy. When Kevin Garnett left, so went the feather in their cappy. But fear not Timberwolves fans, you got a guy you can crow about from here to the Delaware Water Gappy. You got Big Al Jefferson. You got one of the best young big men in the game.
Lat night, Big Al Jefferson filled it up for thirty-eight big points. Last night, Big Al Jefferson pulled down sixteen big rebounds. Last night, Big Al Jefferson almost single-handedly beat the Memphis Grizzlies. It was Jefferson’s fifth 30-point, 15-rebound game since joining the T-Wolves at the beginning of the 2007-08 season. Big deal you say? Who cares you say? I say the only other NBA player with more 30/15 games since the start of last season is Dwight Howard. I say that’s pretty gosh darned good.
We all know Big Al as the other guy. We all know it was a lopsided trade. A flopsided trade. A jokeshop sided trade. We all know thirteen years of mismanagement left the Wolves with no choice but to trade the Big Ticket. Trade the Big Ticket for Big Al Jefferson and other assorted castaways. So this is the tale of the castaways. They’re here for a long, long time. They’ll have to make the best of things. It’s an uphill climb.
It may be an uphill climb but Big Al will help make it a little easier. He’s a massive athlete. A true post player in this day and age where there are precious few true post players. He dominates in the post. He has good footwork and can score anywhere within the paint. If he wants to get to the hizzy, he’s getting to the hizzy. Making folks dizzy. Nobody stops him from getting to the basket. Nobody! Nobody puts baby in the corner. Nobody!
