Michael Vick who? Chris Chandler who? Heck, Steve Bartkowski who? There’s a new sheriff in town and his name ain’t Reggie Hammond. Who woulda thunk? Who woulda thunk this kid would have had such an impact? Matt Ryan has now won ten games. Only two other rookie quarterbacks have won as many. Only Big Ben Rothlisberger and Kyle Orton. Matt Ryan now has a passer rating of 89.7. Only two other rookie quarterbacks had higher ratings. Only Big Ben Rothlisberger and Dandy Dan Marino. Matt Ryan, together with rookie coach Mike Smith, has put together a 10-5 record. Since 1970, no other rookie combination has even come close. In fact, the other four occurences during that time have a combined 7-45-1 record. Yowza! Matt Ryan is for real.
Matt Ryan is leading these new look Falcons into a new era. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Atlanta Falcons. Matty Ice just secured at least a wild-card playoff berth for the Falcons. Matty Ice just secured the Falcons their first trip to the playoffs in three years. With a win next Sunday against the Rams, coupled with a Panthers loss to the Saints, Matty Ice just may secure the Falcons an NFC South crown. That’s a prospect that just one year ago was inconceivable. Inconceivable! You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. I know what it means. So does Matt Ryan. So do the Atlanta Falcons.
