Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Like my main man Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore always says, “The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like… victory. Someday this war’s gonna end.” Smelled like victory last night. And maybe ole surfin’ Bill Kilgore is right. Maybe this war is gonna end. Just not any time soon.
In case you didn’t know. Maybe your TV’s on the fritz. You live in a cave. Something like that there. The Celtics won their fifteenth straight game last night. The Celtics beat the Jazz last night. The Celtics won their fifteenth game, beat the Jazz, and improved their record to 23-2. 23-2! Yowza! That’s the best record through the first 25 games of a season by any defending champion in league history. Any defending champion. Ever.
Wait, it gets better. The Celtics started out 22-3 last season. Put that together with what they’re done doing this year, waddya get? You get the second team in NBA history to win at least twenty-two of their first twenty-five games in each of back-to-back seasons. You know who else did that? Huh? Do ya? Michael Jordan did that. Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls did that in 1995-96 and 1996-97. You know what else they did in ’96 and ’97? They won championships. And ain’t that what it’s all about?
Rajon Rondo is getting better. Career high twenty-five big ones last night. Kendrick Perkins is getting better. Fifteen points, fourteen boards last night. Big Al who? Ray Allen is looking much more Ray Alleny. The Truth is the Truth, and the Big Ticket is the Big Ticket. The Celtics juggernaut continues and shows no signs of slowing down.
