Milan Lucic: Hat Tricking Gordie Howe Style

I got somethin’ that makes me wanna shout. I got somethin’ that tells me what it’s all about. Huh, I got soul and I’m super bad! -James brown

Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! For one game, is there a more badass accomplishment in sports? For one game, is the more badass player in hockey? I love the Gordie Howe hat trick. I love Milan Lucic.

Gordie Howe had skills. Skills to pay the bills. He had grit. True grit. He had intimidation. The man checked, passed, scored, and yes, even fought. Sound like anyone else we know. Huh? Does it? You bet your bippy it does. It sounds like biggest baddest Bruin of them all. It sounds just like my boy, Milan Lucic.

Lat night, there’s Lucic, over to Phil Kessel on the left side of the ice. Kessel finds Zdeno Chara. Chara swings around the back of the net. Backhander. Goal! Assist Lucic. Third period. Marc Savard off the boards for Milan Lucic. Lucic speeds past the Atlanta defender to pick up the loose puck. Two on one with Kessel. Pass to Kessel. No wait. Goal! Goal! Goal Milan Lucic. Throw in the tussle with Eric Boulton and there you have it. There you have your Gordie Howe hat trick. There you have the next Terry O’Reilly.

While everybody’s drooling over the Celtics hot start, the B’s ain’t so bad themselves. The Bruins earned win number twenty last night. That’s the fastest to twenty wins in a season for the Bruins since 1972-73. Since Phil Esposito. Since Bobby Orr. Since Johnny Bucyk. Old time hockey. Big Bad Bruins hockey.

Know who else is big and bad? Huh? Do ya? Phil Kessel. That’s who. Last night, Kessel extended his point streak to fourteen games with a goal and two assists in the Bruins’ 7-3 win at Atlanta. His streak is the longest in the NHL this season and the longest by a Boston player since Adam Oates’ 20-game streak in 1996-97.
